Accessibility Statement

Version 1.0, last updated · Draft

Draft. This document is being reviewed by a solicitor before RunYourBlock opens to customers, and may change. Questions: hello@runyourblock.co.uk.

We want everyone to be able to use RunYourBlock, including people who use screen readers, magnifiers, voice control or keyboards, and people who find long legal text hard to read. Many directors and residents of leaseholder-run blocks are older, or have a disability, or are reading in a second language. We design for them.

Our standard

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA (https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG22/) across the website and the app.

This means, for example, that you should be able to:

  • use every page with a keyboard alone;
  • zoom to 400% without losing content or scrolling sideways;
  • use a screen reader, with proper headings, labels and descriptions;
  • choose a light or dark theme, with good colour contrast in both;
  • read plain English first, with legal terms explained (for example "bills to leaseholders (service-charge demands)").

How we check

  • Automated accessibility tests (using axe) run on our pages every time we change the software, in light and dark mode, on desktop and mobile.
  • We test the main journeys with a keyboard and a screen reader.
  • We ask first-time users to try real tasks and watch where they get stuck.

RunYourBlock is new and still in development. We have not yet had an independent accessibility audit. We plan to have one before the app launches.

What we know isn't right yet

We'll list any known problems here, with what we're doing about them and when. At the moment we're not aware of any failures on the website. If you find one, please tell us.

Paper and other formats

Some people prefer paper. Your block's company can send notices and bills by post, and the app is being built to make that easy. If you need any of our own information (such as these legal pages) in another format, such as large print or plain text, email us and we'll do our best to provide it.

Tell us about a problem

If something on RunYourBlock is hard to use, or you need information in a different format:

  • email hello@runyourblock.co.uk with "Accessibility" in the subject line;
  • tell us the page or screen, what you were trying to do, and what technology you use, if you're happy to.

We aim to reply within 5 working days.

If you're not happy with our response, you can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS) for advice on your rights: https://www.equalityadvisoryservice.com/ or 0808 800 0082.
